7 Easy Ways To Go Green For Earth Month

Going green isn’t as hard as you might think. You might know to recycle and turn out the lights, but what about turning your beauty routine green? It’s easy to change your daily beauty regime so it’s healthier for you and for the Earth.

Make Your Own Beauty Products

Skip the harsh chemical hair and face masks. Celebrate Earth Month by using items from your pantry and refrigerator to make even more effective masks. They smell better, are easy to make and give you the same benefits without any chemical side effects.

Multi-Tasking Beauty

Is your beauty bag bursting at the seams? Give it and the environment a break by buying multi-tasking beauty products. BB and CC creams for instance often contain foundation, primer, concealer, moisturizer and SPF. One tube versus at least four. Less waste and you save time on your makeup.

Opt For Natural Ingredients

Every time you use products with chemicals and toxins, you’re not just exposing yourself to them. You rinse off the products, throw excess in the trash or wash it down the sink. These ingredients are bad for the environment. Read the labels on any products you buy and avoid ingredients such as synthetic fragrances, parabens, phthalates and talc. Natural is always best.

Buy Reusable Bags

You usually end up with plastic bags every time you buy new beauty products. Avoid the waste by taking your own reusable bag with you. Some stores even offer discounts if you have your own bag.

Energy Efficient Styling

How much energy does your flat iron or blow dryer use? Any heat styling tools require energy to get hot. Some brands now offer eco-friendly versions that work just as well. The only real difference is they use far less energy.

Skip Bottled Water

Staying hydrated should be part of any beauty regime. Bottled water is convenient, but horrible for the environment. Start Earth Month right by adding a water filter to your faucet or using a filtered pitcher system. Reusable water bottles with built in filters are also a great option. Filters drastically reduce waste in landfills.

Look For Eco Packaging

Some brands use large packages or non-recycled plastics for their products. Help save the environment a little at a time by buying from brands that use minimal packaging. Many brands are even making packaging from recycled bottles and bags. It’s as easy way to go green.

Green is easier than ever. Pay attention to what you buy and do your part to make the Earth a better place. Do yourself a twofer by considering using products from responsible and sustainable brands like Tom’s of Maine which gives 10% of it’s profits back to the people and keeping our planet gorgeous as ever! Did you know their employees each volunteer their time to save this planet? Part of their “Our Reason For Being” mantra and stewardship model focuses on creating a better environment for all. Each and every employee donates their time and efforts in rehabilitating our mother earth, in 2014 alone they removed 11,000 lbs of unnecessary packaging waste from our landfills! Pretty impressive! If you want to be part of their movement, check out the Natural Care Brigade, a partnership between Tom’s of Maine and Terracycle that focuses on packaging waste. Want to see their amazing work in action? You can watch this video here how they (any you) can make Earth day every day.

Finally, did we mention Tom’s of Maine was founded the same year as Earth Day in 1970? And Jen’s birthday! Also the birthday month of My Beauty Bunny! 🙂
